Thích Tuệ Minh
Thích Tuệ Minh
1861 – 1939
Thích Tuệ Minh (1861–1939), also known by his lineage name Thanh Thái and dharma name Chính Sắc, was the third ancestor of Từ Hiếu Temple and the teacher who transmitted the dharma to Thích Chân Thật. He belonged to the seventh generation of the Liễu Quán school and the forty-first generation of the Linji school.
Tuệ Minh served as abbot of Từ Hiếu from around 1899, continuing the work of building and maintaining the temple that had been transformed from Nhất Định's humble hermitage into a major monastic center. During his abbacy, further renovations were undertaken, including the construction of a half-moon pond in the center of the pagoda compound. His principal significance lies in his role as dharma transmitter: through his student Thích Chân Thật, the lineage would reach Thích Nhất Hạnh, connecting the early Từ Hiếu patriarchs to the modern Plum Village tradition that has brought Vietnamese Zen Buddhism to millions worldwide.
