Đạo Minh Phổ Tịnh
Đạo Minh Phổ Tịnh
Unknown – c. 1816
Đạo Minh Phổ Tịnh (d. c. 1816) was the fourth-generation master of the Liễu Quán dharma line and the thirty-eighth generation of the Linji school. He resided at Thiên Thọ Temple on Hàm Long Mountain in Huế, where he trained the young Nhất Định, who would go on to found Từ Hiếu Temple.
According to the Plum Village biography of Nhất Định, the boy arrived at Thiên Thọ Temple at age seven and trained under Phổ Tịnh for over two decades. At age thirty, Phổ Tịnh transmitted the dharma lamp to Nhất Định with the verse: "Samadhi illuminates the skies / As in space, the full moon is beautiful and complete." This transmission made Nhất Định the fifth generation of the Liễu Quán school and set in motion the founding of Từ Hiếu Temple, which would become the root temple of the entire Plum Village tradition.
