Koho Genkun

Dates uncertain

Koho Genkun was a Rinzai Zen master who contributed to the tradition's institutional and spiritual life in Japan. He maintained the school's rigorous approach to koan practice and the cultivation of genuine insight through the progressive deepening of understanding that characterizes the Rinzai training path.

Genkun's teaching reflected the mature form of the Rinzai school, which integrates the intensity of koan practice with the broader framework of monastic life. The tradition values both the breakthrough moments of kensho and the ongoing work of deepening and integrating realization into every aspect of daily life.
