Nanyue Daoxuan

Nanyue Daoxuan was a Chan figure associated with Mount Nanyue, one of the most important sites in Chan history. He contributed to the transmission of Chan practice on this sacred mountain, which had been the home of Nanyue Huairang and continued to serve as a center of practice for many generations.

Daoxuan's presence at Nanyue reflects the importance of place in the Chan tradition. Certain mountains and temples became repositories of spiritual power through the accumulated practice of many generations, and the teachers who maintained these sites served as custodians of a living heritage that transcended any individual contribution.
