Yang Wuwei

Yang Wuwei was a Yunmen school master who contributed to the tradition's preservation. He is recorded in the lamp literature as a teacher who maintained the Yunmen style and trained students in the methods of the school.

Wuwei's role in the Yunmen lineage reflects the school's gradual absorption into the broader Chan tradition during the Song dynasty. Though the Yunmen school ceased to exist as a separate institution, its spirit survived through the practitioners who carried its methods forward and through the koan collections that preserved its most brilliant encounters.
