Qingyuan line

Changfu Zhi

Dates uncertain

Changfu Zhi was a figure in the Qingyuan lineage recorded in the transmission of the lamp literature. He maintained a practice community and transmitted the Dharma to the next generation of practitioners. The lamp records preserve several of his encounters with monks, reflecting the direct and economical style that characterized the Qingyuan tradition.

Like many Chan masters whose names appear in the genealogical records without extensive biographical detail, Changfu Zhi represents the broad base of the tradition—the steady stream of realized teachers who kept the Dharma alive across generations even when their individual stories did not become the stuff of koan literature.
