Poan Zuxian
Poan Zuxian
1136 – 1211
Po'an Zuxian (破菴祖先, 1136–1211) was a Yangqi-line Linji master of the Southern Song and the Dharma heir of Mi'an Xianjie; his Dharma in turn passed to Wuzhun Shifan, the major Jingshan-monastery teacher of the next generation[1]. The lamp records and the *Po'an Yulu* preserve a small but coherent body of his teaching, and his place in Chan history is principally that of the immediate link between Mi'an and the late-Song Yangqi resurgence under Wuzhun and his successors[2].

Poan said: "If you can see through just one phrase completely, you see through a thousand phrases, ten thousand phrases, all at once. If you cannot see through one phrase, how will more words help you? Do not seek extensively—turn the light around and look at what is looking."
