Qinglin Shiqian
Qinglin Shiqian
Unknown – 904
Qinglin Shiqian was a Chan master in the Nanyue lineage who taught at Qinglin Temple. He is recorded in the transmission literature as a dharma heir who maintained the teaching methods of the Nanyue tradition. His encounters with students, preserved in the lamp records, demonstrate the direct and experiential pedagogy characteristic of the lineage.
Qinglin's community contributed to the broad network of Chan monasteries through which the teaching spread during the Tang and Five Dynasties periods. His role in the lineage, though not marked by the dramatic encounters that became celebrated koans, was essential to maintaining the unbroken chain of transmission that connects the great founders to later generations.
