Rinzai

Seisetsu Genjyo

1877 – 1945

Seisetsu Genjyo (1877–1945) was a Rinzai master and student of Ryoen Genseki. He taught during a period of great upheaval in Japan, maintaining Rinzai practice through the early twentieth century and into the Second World War.

His student Bokuo Soun carried the lineage forward, eventually transmitting it to Omori Sogen. Seisetsu represents the continuity of the Inzan line through one of the most difficult periods in Japanese Buddhist history.
