Qingyuan line

Wujiu Youxuan

Unknown – c. 853

Wujiu Youxuan was a Chan master in the Qingyuan lineage recorded in the transmission of the lamp literature. He maintained a practice community and transmitted the Dharma within the Qingyuan tradition. His encounters with students, preserved in the genealogical records, reflect the direct and experiential approach characteristic of the lineage.

As one of the many faithful transmitters who sustained the Qingyuan line through successive generations, Wujiu contributed to the tradition's continuity during a period of political and social upheaval. The lamp records honor such figures not for dramatic individual accomplishments but for their role in maintaining the living chain of transmitted awakening.
