Huanglong said: "The way of the patriarchs does not lie in the books, does not lie in the words, does not lie in sitting still. It lies in this very moment of meeting. When you and I are face to face right now and the question arises between us—that is the patriarchs' way. Do not look for it in the past. The past is already the past. Do not look for it in the future. The spring grass grows without anyone planting it."
