Tianhuang's Bowl Washing

Lungtan asked Tianhuang Daowu, "I have been here some time now, but you have never pointed out the heart of mind to me." Tianhuang said, "Ever since you arrived, I have been pointing out the heart of mind to you." Lungtan said, "Where have you pointed it out?" Tianhuang said, "When you brought me tea, did I not receive it? When you served me food, did I not eat it? When you bowed, did I not nod? Where is the pointing-out not happening?" Lungtan hung his head in thought. Tianhuang said, "To see, you must see directly. If you deliberate, it is already gone." At these words, Lungtan was opened.
