Linji

Licun

Dates uncertain

Licun was a Linji school master recorded in the transmission of the lamp literature. He maintained a practice community within the Linji tradition and transmitted the Dharma to the next generation. His encounters with students, preserved in the genealogical records, demonstrate the direct and experiential approach that defined the school.

The Linji tradition during the Song dynasty encompassed hundreds of active teachers across China. Masters like Licun, though not among the most celebrated figures, sustained the living network through which the Dharma circulated. Each teacher-student encounter in this network was an opportunity for the flame of awakening to be passed forward, maintaining the continuity that connected Linji Yixuan to all subsequent generations.
