Suizhou Daoyuan

Unknown – c. 942

Suizhou Daoyuan was a Chan master who taught in the Suizhou region. He is recorded in the transmission literature as a teacher who maintained the practice and contributed to Chan's geographical expansion during the Tang dynasty.

Daoyuan's presence in the lineage records reflects Chan's spread from its original centers in the south to regions across China. This geographical expansion was essential to the tradition's eventual position as the dominant form of Chinese Buddhism.
