Early Chan

Suizhou Daoyuan

Dates uncertain

Suizhou Daoyuan (隨州道圓, fl. mid-9th c.) is recorded in the *Jǐngdé Chuándēng Lù* as one of the Qingyuan-stream teachers of the Suizhou region in modern Hubei, active in the regional expansion of Chan that followed the great Huichang persecution of 845[1]. Like many of the secondary figures preserved in the lamp records, the surviving documentation places him in the lineage without preserving much of his individual teaching content[2].
