Xita Guangmu

Dates uncertain

Xita Guangmu was a Linji school master who taught at Xita (West Tower) during the Song dynasty. He is recorded in the lamp literature as a teacher who maintained the Linji tradition's characteristic directness and intensity. His encounters with students employed the standard methods of the school—shout, blow, and paradoxical exchange.

As part of the broad network of Linji teachers active during the Song dynasty, Xita contributed to maintaining the quality and accessibility of the tradition during its period of greatest cultural influence. His community served as one of many training centers where monks could deepen their practice under the guidance of an authenticated teacher in the Linji lineage.
