Caodong

Shexian Guixing

Dates uncertain

Shexian Guixing was a Caodong school master who contributed to the school's transmission during the Song dynasty. He maintained a community of practitioners and taught using the methods passed down through the Caodong lineage—silent sitting, the investigation of the relationship between the absolute and relative, and the direct pointing to awakened mind in ordinary experience.

Guixing's role in the lineage reflects the Caodong school's emphasis on the continuity of transmission. The school valued the steady, unbroken chain of teacher-to-student relationships as the vehicle through which the living quality of awakened mind was preserved and communicated across the generations.
