Mutan Sokan
Mutan Sokan
Unknown – 1387
Mutan Sokan (無端祖環, d. 1387) was one of Gasan Jōseki's five great heirs (*Gasan-go-tetsu*) and the founder of Tōsen-an (洞泉庵), one of the five sub-temples (Goin / 五院) of the Sōji-ji precinct whose abbots rotated as chief priest of the head temple[1]. He founded the Mutan-ha (無端派) sub-lineage; English-language biographical detail beyond his institutional role at Sōji-ji is sparse, and fuller treatment requires Japanese-language Sōtōshū records.
