Renzan Soho
Renzan Soho
Dates uncertain
Renzan Soho was a Soto Zen master who contributed to the school's transmission in Japan. He maintained a practice community and trained students in the Soto tradition's methods—zazen, monastic discipline, and the study of Dogen's writings. His teaching reflected the school's emphasis on practice as the direct expression of awakened mind.
Soho's place in the Soto lineage represents the tradition's organic growth and adaptation across the generations. Each teacher brought their own temperament and insight to the practice while maintaining fidelity to the essential teaching—that sitting in zazen is itself the actualization of Buddha nature.
