Alfonso Sengen Fernández
Alfonso Sengen Fernández
Dates uncertain
Alfonso Sengen Fernández is a Spanish Sōtō Zen monk in the Deshimaru–Triet line and the responsible teacher of the Dōjō Zen de Sevilla Kaiko in Andalusia[1]. The dōjō's own Linaje page identifies him as the centre's resident teacher and traces its Sōtō transmission lineage through Raphaël Dōkō Triet, Stéphane Kōsen Thibaut, Taisen Deshimaru, and Kōdō Sawaki to Eihei Dōgen[1].
In 2017 he received Dharma transmission (shihō) from his teacher Raphaël Dōkō Triet[2], formally entering the Sōtō dharma succession via the Deshimaru–Okamoto–Triet line. The Spanish-language Foro Budismo register of Spanish Zen masters records the transmission directly ("Alfonso Sengen Fernández… recibió la transmisión del Dharma en 2017 de Raphael Doko Triet (Sevilla)")[2]. Together with Yves Shōshin Crettaz (Lisbon, 2013), Hugues Yūsen Naas (2009), and Begoña Kaidō Agiriano (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 2013) he is one of four publicly-documented shihō recipients of Triet[2].
Fernández anchors the Andalusian wing of the Triet line in Seville, complementing Triet's own residence at Templo Zen Seikyūji near Morón de la Frontera and contributing to the wider Iberian Kōsen / Triet network alongside the Lisbon, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Mataró communities[1][2]. He is publicly identified by his Andalusian peers as one of the three Spanish disciples of Triet to have received shihō, with the existence of at least one additional unnamed Spanish disciple noted but not yet documented in any consolidated source[2].
