Émon

1955 – Unknown

Claude Émon Cannizzo (b. 1955, France) is a French Sōtō Zen monk and dharma heir of Roland Yuno Rech, godo of the Butsushin Zendo in Mulhouse[1][2]. After many years teaching martial arts, he discovered Zen practice in 1980, received the bodhisattva precepts in 1987 — the year he founded the Mulhouse dōjō — and was ordained a monk by Yuno Rech in 1991[2]. In parallel he trained as a shiatsu therapist with the European Iokai School (certified 1996) and developed his own Zan Shin Shiatsu pedagogy, which he has taught in eastern France since 2008[2][3].

In 2016 Cannizzo received shihō from Roland Yuno Rech and was confirmed as the master responsible for the Mulhouse temple, a small but historically central node of the Alsatian AZI sangha and the local point of contact for cross-border Zen activity with German-speaking Switzerland and Baden-Württemberg[1][2]. He is one of the senior French AZI teachers and a frequent guest at sesshin throughout the network[2][3].
