Nansen

1965 – Unknown

Lluís Nansen Salas (b. 1965, Barcelona) is a Catalan Sōtō Zen monk and dharma heir of Roland Yuno Rech, founder of the Dōjō Zen Barcelona Kannon and of the broader Zen Kannon community[1][2][3]. A graduate in theoretical physics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, he worked for many years in actuarial mathematics for a multinational insurer before discovering zazen at age 26 at the historic Dojo Zen of Barcelona on Carrer Montcada[2][3]. He was ordained a monk in 1995 at La Gendronnière and trained for two decades in the AZI sesshin circuit before founding the Dōjō Kannon in 2008[2].

On the night of Friday 9 December 2016, during the closing sesshin in Lluçà (Catalonia), Nansen Salas received shihō from Roland Yuno Rech, becoming the principal Rech-line successor in Catalonia[1][2]. He has since published several Catalan- and Spanish-language books on Sōtō practice with Viena Edicions and is a regular interview subject in the Spanish Buddhist press; under his direction Zen Kannon is now a member of the Coordinadora Catalana d'Entitats Budistes (CCEB)[2][4].
