Heinz-Jürgen Metzger is a German Sōtō Zen monk, founder and director of the BuddhaWeg-Sangha in Solingen / Cologne and one of the two Deshimaru-line teachers Roland Yuno Rech transmitted to in 2010[1][2]. He has practiced zazen since 1985 in the lineage of Taisen Deshimaru and was ordained a monk by Yuno Rech in 1991, after which he became the first Rech-line teacher to establish a full sangha in German-speaking Europe outside the older Coupey / Pilet circuit[2][3].
In 2010 Metzger received shihō (dharma transmission) confirmation from Roland Yuno Rech at La Gendronnière[1][2]. In 2015 he was formally appointed kyōshi by the Sōtōshū in Tokyo — one of the small group of authorised dendō kyōshi for German-speaking Europe, registered through the Sōtōshū Europe office[2][4]. He directs the BuddhaWeg-Sangha Zen-Zentrum in Solingen, the Zen-Dōjō Köln-Zollstock, and oversees a third practice place in Weimar-Buchenwald; his teisho and kusen are regularly recorded for the BuddhaWeg-Sangha audio archive[2][3].
